If you have a bigger propane tank, call us and we'll send a truck to refill it. If you need a propane cylinder replacement call us and we can do that as well. Propane Cylinder Replacement & Refill in Mount Kisco: How It Works

Exchange/Replacement and refill are two different things, and the right option depends on your situation.

 

Propane tank exchange/replacement means when you switch to Almeida Oil as your propane provider we will come to your house or place of business, install our tanks, and disconnect existing once. We do not exchange BBQ or other small tanks but can refill them for you at our Mount Kisco location (see below).

 

BBQ/Small propane cylinder refill means your existing BBQ style cylinder gets filled by weight on-site (Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm). Refills typically give you more propane per dollar, because you're paying for fuel and not cost of a replacement cylinder. We do not exchange BBQ or other small tanks like they do at some gas stations, but our re-fills are considerably cheaper. We also refill larger tanks on-site. Call us and we'll send a propane truck to you.

 

A few things to note before you come in:

 

  • Cylinders must be within their recertification date (most standard tanks need recertification after 12 years)

  • Overfilled or damaged cylinders cannot be refilled — they'll need to be exchanged

  • We fill by weight, not by gauge, so you get a full fill every time

Common Uses for Portable Propane Cylinders

The standard 5 gallon (20 lb) propane cylinder covers most residential and light commercial portable needs. Here's what we regularly see customers fueling:

 

Grills and Outdoor Cooking

 

The most common use by far. A 20 lb tank typically runs a medium-sized grill for 18–20 hours of cook time. If you're grilling often through the summer, keeping a spare cylinder on hand and exchanging them in rotation is the most practical approach.

 

Portable Heaters

 

Propane construction heaters, patio heaters, and indoor-rated portable heaters all run on standard cylinders. Demand spikes in fall and early winter; if you're heading into a cold stretch, don't wait until the tank is empty.

 

Generators

 

Smaller propane generators use standard cylinders for short-term backup power. If your generator is propane-fueled and runs for extended periods, you may want to discuss larger cylinder options or a propane delivery account for a fixed tank.

 

Camping and Recreation Equipment

What size propane cylinders do you carry?

 

We stock standard 20lb cylinders (the most common size for grills and portable heaters) all the way to 1000 gallon in-ground / above-ground tanks for high-demand applications. If you need a specific size or don't know what size you need, call us and we'll help you.

 

How do I know if my cylinder needs recertification before a refill?

 

The manufacture date is stamped on the collar of the cylinder — it shows month and year. Most standard propane cylinders are good for 12 years from manufacture, then require recertification (which can extend service for another 5 years) or replacement. If your cylinder is approaching that date, bring it in and we'll assess it. Expired cylinders cannot be refilled under DOT regulations.
